How many students will be in each class? Is this 1-on-1 tutoring?
There is just one student in each class - your child. There are no other students in a class.
Where does the lessons take place? How does the tutor write notes or make presentation?
Lessons will take place online using Google Meet. We will use Miro as our interactive whiteboard. Both the tutor and your child can write on it freely, copy and paste things onto it, and so on. At the end of each class, our tutor will export the notes as PDF and send it to your child's email address.
How long is each class?
This is up to your child. Typically, each class is between 1 and 2 hours.
What will be taught in each class?
Our tutors can help your child in many ways depending on the needs of your child. He or she might help your child understand what's been taught in school. He or she might give your child relevant practice questions to clarify certain concepts or deepen his or her understanding. Or, he or she might help your child review for a test or exam. Our tutor will assess what's needed by your child every class and give instructions based on his or her needs.
Do you give out homework? If so, what kind of homework is it?
In most cases, yes. Our tutors might give some extra practice questions for your child to review at home. Our tutors know how to do well in school and excel at tests. They will work with your child to improve his or her study skills so your child can work smarter.
Is there a dashboard where I / my child can see the lesson schedules and worksheets / resources?
Yes, every student and parent get an online dashboard where they can see the lesson schedules, textbooks, worksheets, and other materials.
What if my child didn't understand the lesson? Can he/she ask more questions after class?
There are lots of opportunities to ask questions inside the class. If your child requires extra help beyond the classroom hours, please schedule more lessons.
How many classes will there be in a week?
This is up to your child. Some students who only want to ask a few questions each week typically chooses to take 1 lesson a week for 1 hour a lesson. Some students may choose to take two 1-hour lessons each week. Some students take one 2-hour lesson every week.
We will use Google Meet for interactive lessons and Miro for interactive whiteboard.
What are the technical requirements for the class?
A computer (preferably a laptop) with a strong internet connection is required. Google Meet is free and runs on an internet browser, so any computer should be fine. The computer should have a microphone, speakers, and preferably a webcam enabled. Particularly, I recommend that webcam is turned on and kept on throughout the class. Over the years, I've found that when everyone can see each other, students are more engaged and motivated. Also, a tutor may ask the students to show what they wrote on their paper by holding it against the webcam.
What else should my child prepare?
Please prepare a black pen, erasers, and a stack of blank paper. Your child may need to write on the paper and show it to me. To be visible on webcam, work written with a thick black pen on white sheet of copier paper is the best.
Where should my child take the lesson?
I strongly recommend that your child takes the lesson in a quiet room at home. There shouldn't be loud noises nearby, and TV, YouTube, Netflix, radio, music, etc. should all be turned off while the lesson takes place. Your child also should not be playing with a handheld device, chatting with friends, or doing anything else that is unrelated to the lesson. During the 30-minute period before or after a break, full concentration is needed to get through the materials.
Is there a bathroom break during the lesson?
Your child is welcome to go to bathroom any time during the lesson. If your child needs a bit of break, feel free to ask the tutor.
